B4 invites market experts to validate sustainability tag.

Starting today, B4 is accepting applications to join the Working Group for validating B4’s Sustainability and Quality Seal. Applications are open until September 20.

With the aim of further enhancing the process for both regulated and voluntary carbon credit markets, B4 has established a specific Working Group (WG) for validating its quality seal. This initiative aims to simplify access for companies to a benchmark that facilitates the incorporation of sustainability projects efficiently and economically. It establishes clear and advanced guidelines for sustainable practices that companies can follow on this path.

The WG, which will convene in four strategic meetings, comprises a diverse team of multidisciplinary experts in crucial sectors including legal, audit and compliance, real-time tracking technology, agriculture and biodiversity, forestry, wildlife, and flora, as well as professionals specialized in ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) standards.

Drawing from the rich experiences of each market player, these contributions to the seal’s development ensure a comprehensive approach that encompasses different yet complementary perspectives. This meeting is crucial given the challenges of the new carbon credit, green hydrogen, and biodiversity markets, which feature little-known standards that are still difficult for companies initiating sustainability projects to access. Additionally, it addresses market obstacles in measuring carbon footprints, rapidly initiating mitigation of harmful environmental practices, and expanding governance systems regeneratively.

Following the company’s ongoing efforts, the first WG meeting will share a layout and technological method that ensures transparency, immutability, inclusiveness, and traceability—fundamental pillars for B4. This meeting will enhance the seal’s development process leveraging the accumulated knowledge of involved professionals. It will also address challenges and obstacles based on prior company analyses and observations. The critical analysis and expertise of each specialist will be essential for constructing the seal.

At the end of the process, a manual will be made available to the general public outlining the basic premises for granting the seal. This document will be blockchain registered—enhancing credibility and transparency in the process.

At this stage, both regulated and voluntary markets will gain access to standards that increase transparency in carbon credit inventory, auditing, and evaluation methods, as well as a tool facilitating easier visual access to biodiversity credit and other resource information, thereby serving as a reference for listing on B4.

To be listed on B4, companies will need to meet all these requirements, ensuring the reliability and integrity of their actions. The seal will be one of the services offered by the WG participants, thus available for use by all companies involved in this creation process.

The application form will be available from September 13, 2023, until September 20 of the same month and can be submitted by experts from the mentioned areas. On September 20, the WG leadership will be announced, and weekly reports from the meetings will be released. Working Groups in other countries will begin to be announced in November.

This initiative marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and responsible future, where companies will have the opportunity to initiate their climate action projects securely, swiftly, and cost-effectively.
