he B4 celebrated its 1-year anniversary on August 13, 2024.
The event took place in São Paulo, during the Traders Academy, where B4 celebrated its launch with an immersive experience in the financial market alongside the largest bank in the country, Banco do Brasil, and the largest brokerage in Latin America, Mercado Bitcoin.
Interestingly, yesterday would have been the original date planned for B4’s launch. Our initial plan was to debut on August 13, 2024, as we anticipated that the market would still be underregulated and in a phase of adaptation.
We also believed that, by this time, both the platform and the Artificial Intelligence would be ready for launch. However, as highlighted by Odair Rodrigues, CEO of B4:
“We were pushed by the market to position ourselves.”
Did you know that it has been over 60 years since a new stock exchange was founded in Brazil? Of course, we’re talking without considering mergers and acquisitions.
B4 was born big. As mainly reported by Estadão: “Brazil launches the world’s first carbon credit exchange, with expectations to move BRL 12 billion.”
This moment was crucial to validate B4’s most important thesis:
“There is no carbon credit in Brazil, …”
The comma is significant: there is no carbon credit in Brazil – tracked, transparent, audited, legitimate, and that truly represents a real decarbonization project – as of August 16, 2023.
For a project to be approved by B4, besides being a genuine sustainable asset issuance project from a reputable brand in the country, it also needs to have a real social appeal.

What does the future hold?
B4, the first Climate Action Exchange in Brazil, inaugurates a new phase for the sustainability market. From August 13 onward, we are announcing B4’s Special Projects Department, which already supports more than 645 projects in development, all tracked from day one on the Exchange’s blockchain.
We hope that by our next anniversary on August 13, 2025, we will be at an even higher level in the market.
